We are always told NOT to write in books, fold down pages or spill food on them-much less cut out pages, glue them together and paint or draw on them! Well, in this class we will do all this and more: An altered book is a form of mixed media artwork that changes a book from its original form into a new creation, radically altering its appearance and/or meaning. An altered book artist takes a book (old, new, recycled or multiple) and cuts, tears, glues, burns, folds, paints, adds to, collages, rebinds, creates pop-ups, rubber-stamps, drills, bolts, and/or be-ribbons it. The artist may add pockets and niches to hold tags, rocks, memorabilia or other three-dimensional objects. Some change the shape of the book, or use multiple books in the creation of the finished piece of art. In this class you will be able to explore, invent, and express your ideas and thoughts through this exciting art form. No experience necessary- come play, explore and create! Class Size: 12
